How Jupiter have a liquid surface that is not contained by a solid surrounding?

Ok, maybe it has a solid core, maybe it doesn't. But, how can it have a liquid surface if the liquid is not contained by a land or solid mass? I mean, isn't a liquid defined by something that takes the shape of a container? Do gas planets have unique physical laws?
